We are pleased to announce the 8th Workshop on Sustainable Horticultural Production in the Tropics. The theme of the workshop is ‘Value chain of fruits for local market, export and processing in the Tropics’.
The concept of value chains developed out of the realization of the close interaction among production of raw material, its processing and use. A value chain can be defined as a sequence of productive processes from the provision of specific inputs for a particular product to its primary production, transformation, marketing and distribution, and final consumption.
The workshop seeks to provide an opportunity to analyze the value chains of fruits within the tropical environment. In subsequent workshops value chains of vegetables and ornamental plants will be considered. In addition, other topics including the phasing out of methyl bromide will be tackled.
Venue
The workshop will take place at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) which is in Kakamega town, the capital of the expansive Western province.
Scientific Presentations
The workshop shall be accomplished by oral and poster presentations on Days 1 and 2. There will be excursions on Days 3 and 4 which will take participants to different horticultural production and scenic sites in western Kenya.
On the first day of the workshop, participants will be provided with books of abstracts having a comprehensive programme.
The workshop language is English.
